Manchester United midfielder Memphis Depay wasn’t able to follow-up his storming display against Club Brugge with a similar performance against Newcastle United.
Coming off the back of a man of the match display against Brugge on Tuesday, the focus was on the young Dutchman. However, Memphis could not make his mark on the game despite some bright moments early on.
The 21-year-old found himself on the ball throughout the game but could not quite find his final product. He worked himself into some good positions on the left flank, yet his delivery always seemed to let him down.
Louis van Gaal warned United fans that they had to make sure they managed their expectations and Memphis’ performance today, which was noticeably muted in comparison to midweek, showed that was sound advice.
So much potential in Memphis, but he's really overthinking every move he makes. Once he settles, he can be our best creative outlet.

Mata was decent, Memphis was below average, adnan was average, Morgan and Luke were fantastic.

Lol @ everyone saying Depay hasn't played well when he's looked like Utd's only player capable of creating/scoring.

With the second leg against Club Brugge coming up on Wednesday, Memphis and United will be hoping to bounce back in style. In spite of the disappointing result, fans will see a silver lining in the dominance the Reds had over Newcastle.
United will now want to put the game against Newcastle behind them and look forward to improving onto bigger and better things, starting against Brugge in midweek.
