Player Ratings: Manchester United 0-0 Newcastle

by Sid Choudhary

Sergio Romero 6 Didn’t have a save to make but was unconvincing coming off his line.

Matteo Darmian 7 Once again, brilliant going forward, constantly provided an extra outlet.

Chris Smalling 8 Solid, as expected and dealt well with the threat of Mitrovic.

Daley Blind 8 Another disciplined performance, starting to make the centre-back spot his own.

Luke Shaw 7 Linked well with Memphis but struggled with his final ball in attacking positions.

Bastian Schweinsteiger 6 Efficient display and he helped United’s pressing game on his first start.

Morgan Schneiderlin 7 Won the ball back with ease but couldn’t quite provide the offensive spark needed.

Juan Mata 5 Looked out of sorts on the right wing again, struggling to pick a pass and was always reluctant to shoot.

Adnan Januzaj 6 Took players on and drove United forward but was unable to apply the final pass.

Memphis Depay 5 Got into decent positions but his decision-making let him down on multiple occasions.

Wayne Rooney 5 Another poor performance, didn’t seem to provide anything going forward. Unlucky with his early effort being ruled out.

Substitutes

Michael Carrick 8 Gave United huge impetus going forward with pin-point passing and always same to play the right ball.

Javier Hernandez 6 Couldn’t finish a huge chance late on but put himself about.

Antonio Valencia 6 Barely made an impact after replacing Darmian deep into the second half.
