Bastian Schweinsteiger disappointed with Manchester United’s draw against Newcastle

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger was left disappointed after his side could only muster a 0-0 draw against Newcastle at Old Trafford.

The German made his first start for Man United and put in the sort of display that Reds fans are quickly becoming accustomed to seeing.

Schweinsteiger was calm on the ball and dictated the tempo of the game, before being replaced by Michael Carrick on the hour mark.

After Louis van Gaal revealed Schweinsteiger is still making his way to full fitness, it came as no surprise to see him taken off after 60 minutes but it was another game in which he showed how much of an influence he can be in the middle of the park for United this season.

With his full competitive debut now under his belt, the 31-year-old will be looking to cement his place in the side and help push United towards silverware when he can regain his full match fitness. Hopefully, that shouldn’t be too far away.

With a crucial away leg against Club Brugge coming up on Wednesday, Van Gaal may well call upon Schweinsteiger’s experience once again because United simply have to avoid defeat in order to go through and have no need to play an open game.

Schweinsteiger hasn’t hit top gear yet because of his fitness battles but he is slowly growing in confidence and as soon as his fitness follows suit, he’ll probably become one of the first names on the team-sheet in Van Gaal’s best starting XI.
