Manchester United offered opportunity to sign Alexandre Pato

Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Alexandre Pato this summer for a fee in the region of £11m, report The Telegraph.

The 25-year-old ex-AC Milan striker is expected to leave his current club Corinthians and with Man United in desperate need of a goalscorer, Pato becomes the latest striker to have his name thrown into the hat.

However, unlike other recent players such as Thomas Muller and Neymar who been touted as potential targets, Pato is not somebody a team would sign if they wanted guaranteed goals next year like United do.

Pato has only scored 25 goals in the last three years playing in the Brazilian League and is not the same player he once was at AC Milan when he burst onto the scene.

It’s not too much of a surprise to see him be linked with United because, quite frankly, after the Neymar rumours emerged this week there isn’t too much that can actually surprise us in the transfer window but any move for Pato is surely highly unlikely.

If Louis van Gaal signs a striker, it will be somebody he is supremely confident will improve United’s current options which is not what Pato would be.

Somebody like Muller is a player who would come in and immediately make United a much bigger threat in attack, so while Pato may well be available this summer, it would be a huge surprise to see Van Gaal pursue him.
