West Brom still interested in signing Jonny Evans from Manchester United

by Sam Koster

West Brom have revived their interest in signing Jonny Evans from Manchester United suggest the Daily Mail.

Evans made only 14 starts for Man United last season and was a peripheral figure for much of the campaign as he fell behind the likes of Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett at the club.

The Northern-Irishman was also absent from Old Trafford on Saturday as United were held by Newcastle United, which has fuelled speculation that the defender is on the verge of an exit.

With players such as Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling and Daley Blind quite clearly ahead of Evans in the pecking order at the club, Evans is unlikely to experience any prolonged game time this season, which may have lead him to turn his head elsewhere.

While it is somewhat sad to see an academy graduate depart Old Trafford, there can be no room for sentiment as United look to return to winning ways in the coming season.

If United are to to compete on all fronts this coming season, their defence needs to be up there with the best if they are to rival Europe’s top sides, which is sadly, a bracket Evans falls just short of.
