Manchester United want £12m for Jonny Evans – report

Manchester United are willing to sell Jonny Evans to any club who bid £12m for the defender, according to The Express.

The Northern Irishman has plummeted down Louis van Gaal‘s pecking order after a demise in form over the last two years that unluckily dovetailed with being involved in a spitting incident with Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse back in March, which led to a six game ban.

West Brom are the rumoured frontrunners in the chase to sign Evans before the window closes in five days.

United, who are clearly keen to part ways with the out-of-favour Evans, rate the 27-year-old at £12m.

Despite being a victim of widespread derision from United supporters in recent times, Evans can look at his career at Old Trafford – something that has spanned nine years – with satisfaction having won nine major honours with the club since 2006.

However, in what seems like an irreversible decline of form and confidence, Evans no longer merits a place amongst van Gaal’s defensive options.

His performances in the last two seasons have been hallmarked by painful indecision and flimsiness, much to the frustration of supporters, who once saw Evans look imperious under Sir Alex Ferguson.

A move to another Premier League side is the best thing for Evans, whose Old Trafford career nears a sad conclusion.
