Morgan Schneiderlin has outlined his determination to emulate the achievements of Manchester United legend Roy Keane.
The Frenchman been a source of immense joy for United fans after making a fantastic start to life at Old Trafford; bringing some much needed energy and grit to van Gaal’s midfield.
In an interview with France Football, Schneiderlin spoke of his desire to mimic the heroics of United’s former skipper.
“I hope to become like him (Keane) because he was a legend,” Schneiderlin said.
“He has a different personality from me. I speak less on the pitch. But I hope to have the same impact as him on the team.
“His battles with Patrick Vieira, when United and Arsenal were in competition, were memorable. I watched a documentary on the rivalry between the two – it was interesting.”
Whether anyone could fully replicate the passion and aggression displayed by Keane during his time at Old Trafford is highly debatable. In his own right, Keane was a force of nature – and one many would label as unique.
However, one thing is certain: United have finally found the tenacious, dogged, tireless defensive midfield dynamo they’ve been searching for in recent years. Van Gaal’s side have only conceded once in their first four games and, contrary to what many thought in the summer, their current centre-back partnership looks reasonably settled. Needless to say, this is borne out of the endeavours of Schneiderlin, who takes care of the ugly but necessary aspects of the game with complete ease and control.
