Manchester United will play PSV Eindhoven, CSKA Moscow and Wolfsburg in Group B of the Champions League group stages after the teams were drawn together on Thursday afternoon.
The draw means former PSV forward Memphis Depay will return to his old club sooner than he may have expected.
Meanwhile, Man United face a tricky trip to Moscow to face CSKA, who will be confident of getting a positive result out of Louis van Gaal’s side in the Arena Khimki.
Moscow was of course the scene of United’s 2008 Champions League victory and the journey will be sure to bring back memories for supporters.
Wolfsburg will also pose problems for United having enjoyed a successful season in the German Bundesliga last term.
The draw certainly could have been worse, as United avoided some of the bigger teams in the competition.
Manchester City were given a tough draw, with Juventus, Sevilla and Borussia Monchengladbach all in their group. Chelsea will play Porto, Dynamo Kyiv and Maccabi Tel Aviv, while Arsenal will face Bayern Munich, Olympiacos and Dinamo Zagreb.
