Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil believes that Manchester United’s Bastian Schweinstieger needs time to settle into life in the Premier League.
Schweinsteiger came off the substitute’s bench in Man United’s first few games of the season before starting in the 0-0 draw against Newcastle United last weekend.
He came off in the second half of that game due to a knock but his national teammate Ozil believes that time will prove just how good Schweinstieger can be for United.
“The drastic interim judgment in [the] English press is not fair towards him [Schweinsteiger] He certainly needs some time to adjust to Premier League. Just allow him a bit of time,” Ozil said.
“Basti has shown the whole world at the World Cup what a leader he is, most of all in the final.”
Schweinstieger hasn’t had too many minutes on the pitch so far in his United career but he has begun to get to grips with his role in the team. You can expect the German to start more frequently and nail down his starting place in the coming weeks.
His assist for Ander Herrera‘s goal against Club Brugge in the Champions League qualifier was the kind of thing that some players can only dream of. The vision and confidence to make such a pass is what United have been missing in recent years and you can be sure that the new signing will have a massive say in where United finish in the league come the end of the campaign.
