Anthony Martial given permission to join Manchester United

Anthony Martial has been granted permission by the French Football Federation to leave their international training camp in order to sign a contract with Manchester United.

News broke last night of a €50m bid from Man United for the 19-year-old Monaco striker, which was quickly followed up by claims that Monaco wanted €60m plus Marcos Rojo for him, and that now looks to have accelerated to the point where Martial is on his way to Manchester to complete a move.

Martial will now fly to Manchester today to complete his medical and sign a contract before flying back to France on Tuesday morning.

A statement from the FFP reads: “Anthony Martial (photo) was presented Monday at 11:00 at the gathering of the France team at Clairefontaine. He requested from Didier Deschamps permission to travel to England to sign a contract with Manchester United.

“Given the exceptional circumstances, the coach has acceded to the request of the player.

Anthony Martial left Clairefontaine Monday at 12:00. He will return on Tuesday morning.”

Martial is a young, raw striker with bags of potential but not much is known about him by United fans. That being said, there must be something special about him if Ed Woodward is willing to pay €50m+ for him.

Louis van Gaal has always said there could be a surprise happening and there wouldn’t be a more surprising transfer this summer if Martial does complete his move to United.
