Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas is undergoing his medical in Spain in preparation for a move to Manchester United, reports Gianluca Di Marzio.
Since Spain’s transfer window closes a day earlier, there is no time for the Costa Rican to have his medical at Carrington, so he is having it at Real Madrid’s facilities.
The 28-year-old is expected to complete his medical tonight before flying to Manchester in order to finalise a few other details.
Navas’ move to Old Trafford coincides with the deal between Man United and Madrid over David De Gea. The goalkeeper will be sold alongside a separate £29m fee for the Spaniard.
United supporters will be understandably dejected at seeing their finest player leave for Madrid but keeping De Gea, who evidently wants to be elsewhere, was always going to be reliably.
Louis van Gaal saw the very best of Navas whilst manager of the Netherlands as the 28-year-old resisted a bombardment from the Dutchman’s side in the 2014 World Cup for a full 120 minutes, taking the game to penalties and earning worldwide acclaim.
United fans will hope to see similar heroics as the Costa Rican takes up the hefty task of trying to fill the boots of De Gea.
