Real Madrid issue official statement after David de Gea transfer fiasco

by Ben Topliss

Real Madrid have issued a statement on the failed transfer of David de Gea which blames Manchester United for the debacle.

In the statement, Madrid state that Man United did not enter negotiations over the potential move until very late.

Although Madrid did all they could to sign the keeper, they say that United took too long and the deal did not go through in time.

The bombshell statement, which includes a timeline of events, was published on Madrid’s official website:

The whole saga has become farcical in the extreme and the statement has well and truly pushed it over the tipping point.

It’s hard to believe this is actually happening. Two of the biggest clubs in the world, reduced to a petty blame game. There is now a huge amount of uncertainty and it is not quite clear where all the parties go from here. Will De Gea be accepted back at Old Trafford? Who knows.
