Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos backs David de Gea to bounce back following transfer fiasco

Sergio Ramos believes that Manchester United keeper David de Gea will bounce back following his failed transfer to Real Madrid.

De Gea was set for a move to Madrid in the final hours of the transfer window but the deal eventually collapsed as the paperwork was not submitted in time.

Madrid and Man United have since entered a war of words, with both clubs issuing statements explaining their version of events.

Ramos was cagey about the situation but insisted that “life goes on”.

“I have not talked to David and do not know his opinion, (but) life goes on. Nobody has died for this. He must maintain his level, he is one of the best keepers,” he said.

“The world of football and signings is like this. Everyone tries to get the most and this is never easy for any player.

“He has had a bumpy summer because he has decided his future and that of his family. But it is something we have to go through at times, everyone has to understand the facts and do their best wherever they are.”

United could have signed Ramos as part of the De Gea deal if they had their way earlier in the window. As it happened, the defender signed a new contract at the Bernabeu. De Gea has been left in a precarious situation at United but he will have to maintain his professionalism ahead of the European Championships in 2016.
