Craig Bellamy has urged Gareth Bale to stay at Real Madrid for as long as they want him there.
The Welshman signed for Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 and has had mixed fortunes at the club. He was booed for long periods last season but he has had a mostly positive effect on the team.
Manchester United were linked with a move for the player this summer but it never materialised as Madrid remained adamant that they would not be selling one of their galacticos.
The player’s compatriot, Bellamy, believes that Madrid are at the very top of world football with few clubs on the same level.
“I can’t see him [Bale] going anywhere; [Rafa] Benitez when he walked in at the club from the start of the season would have seen he’s one of his best players. At Madrid, from the owners down to everyone else, they hold him in high regard and I think he’ll be there for a number of years,” Bellamy said.
“Once you’re at a club like Real Madrid or Barcelona you don’t leave there unless they want you to. You stay at those clubs for as long as you can because you’re at the pinnacle of football.”
Bale just turned 26 in July and has not even reached the peak of his powers yet. He has been installed as the focal point of Rafa Benitez’s Real Madrid side this year and has been given a free role to roam anywhere across the attacking line in the first two games.
He would have been an excellent signing for United and would have automatically become the biggest name in their squad but his tenure at Madrid is not finished yet. There is a sense that he will return to the Premier League one day but the Spanish giants are not ready to allow him leave yet. When he does, United could be at the top of the queue given their continued interest and obvious admiration of the player.
