Fans’ view: Should David de Gea start against Liverpool after the international break?

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United keeper David de Gea has been left in an incredibly difficult position following the fiasco that was his failed transfer to Real Madrid.

De Gea was all set to move to the Bernabeu late on Monday night but late paperwork meant the deal fell through.

The Spaniard must now repair his relationship with Louis van Gaal if he is to get into the Spain squad for the European Championships next summer.

United are said to be relaxed about De Gea’s return but van Gaal may not want to throw him in at the deep end against Liverpool after the international break. We asked our Twitter followers if they would play him at Old Trafford:

Sergio Romero has been playing in De Gea’s absence but the Argentine has looked far from convincing in-between the sticks.

Although the transfer debacle is still fresh in the mind, van Gaal may as well use De Gea sooner rather than later. He is arguably the best keeper in the world and he will significantly improve the chances of getting a victory against Liverpool. The hope is that he is professional enough to focus on the game.
