David de Gea has pushed the situation regarding his future to one side, dusted off his gloves and got back between the sticks out on international duty with Spain.
Training alongside Iker Casillas ahead of Spain’s upcoming games against Slovakia and Macedonia and will be desperate for Vicente del Bosque to choose him as his new No.1 goalkeeper.
After months of silence, De Gea wholeheartedly expected to join Real Madrid on deadline day but thanks to some poor administration, the deal fell through right at the last minute.
Man United fans are happy and over time De Gea should get back to his best for both United and Spain. In the mean time, he’s just got to focus on training and nothing else:
His training partner Casillas must also be pretty angry at what has happened this summer. He was pushed out of Real Madrid in what many considered a prelude to De Gea’s signature but because that failed to materialise, was there any need for Casillas to leave in the first place?
Casillas is De Gea’s main competition for the No.1 spot at Euro 2016 and the fact Del Bosque has already made it clear how he won’t choose De Gea if he isn’t playing regular first-team football is important.
At United, De Gea cannot afford to do anything but dust himself off and get back to his best if he wants to be Spain’s first choice goalkeeper in the summer.
Next up for United is Liverpool at home. What a perfect game for De Gea to come straight back in for (sorry Sergio).
