Morgan Schneiderlin talks up new Manchester United teammate Anthony Martial

by Robbie Dunne

Morgan Schneiderlin believes Anthony Martial has “big potential” but insisted he must be given time to develop at Manchester United.

Martial is in the middle of the most important week of his life. Having been called up to the senior French team for the first time by Didier Deschamps, he was granted leave from the squad to sign for Man United.

As the youngster undergoes a seismic shift in his career, he gets to spend time with United player Schneiderlin as they prepare for games against Portugal and Serbia.

Schneiderlin believes Martial must be given time and that he should not be compared to Thierry Henry so early in his career.

“He [Martial] is a talented and powerful striker, who’s compared to Thierry Henry… well, it’s you [the media] who make that comparison, but let’s not put too much pressure on him! I think he has big potential and his playing style will be suited to England,” Schneiderlin said.

“At a club like United, a striker is expected to score a lot of goals but he has to put this aside, believe in his talent and play like he knows how to.

“But knowing the United players, he’ll settle in very quickly and everything will be alright.”

With Martial getting to spend some time with Schneiderlin and former United players such as Patrice Evra with France, it might help him to get his head around his busy week. The attention will be on Martial and United’s squad when Premier League clubs reconvene next week but the break might do him the world of good.
