Indy Boonen‘s father has revealed that a host of clubs including Arsenal, Wolfsburg and Ajax in order to join Manchester United.
The talented Belgian completed his move to Man United this summer and went into Paul McGuinness’ U18s side.
Boonen was on the bench for United’s U18s 3-2 loss to Newcastle this weekend and when speaking to Het Belang van Limburg, Indy’s father said: “Indy first went on trial with Salzburg, Manchester United were the second club.
“Arsenal, Feyenoord, Wolfsburg and Basel were also after him; Ajax had also shown an interest”, Boonen senior continued.
“But Indy always wanted to join Manchester United and after his week-long trial period he called me and said, ‘I want to play football here’.”
Indy’s brother Seppe is also touted to join United and reports have suggested that has already been agreed, so it could soon be a family affair at Old Trafford.
When it comes to securing the best youngsters around Europe, it is of paramount importance that United continue to do just that.
Andreas Pereira and Adnan Januzaj are two recent examples of foreign imports who have gone on to be a success through United’s academy sides, so Boonen will be looking to follow in their footsteps in the future.
