Derby interested in loan move for Manchester United’s James Wilson – report

by Sam Koster

Derby are one of a number of Championship clubs interested in signing Manchester United striker James Wilson on loan, according to MailOnline.

The 19-year-old has struggled to hold down a starting spot for Man United having played just 17 minutes of football under Louis van Gaal since February.

However, the Manchester-born youngster made headlines earlier this week by scoring on his England U21 debut against the USA, and was later described by coach Gareth Southgate as having “great potential”.

United will wait to see how new signing Anthony Martial beds in before making a decision on Wilson’s future at the end of the month. If they do send him out on loan, the club is likely to include a call-back option.

Wilson’s immense talent is there for everyone to see but there is a question mark over when he will get his chance.

The signing of Martial for £36m from Monaco has been criticised by some United fans, who have claimed it will only serve to stunt the development of Wilson, a player whom many believe to be one of the club’s biggest homegrown talents in recent years.

Wilson has never been given an extended run of games under van Gaal, and at 19 years old, he faces a crucial stage in his development. A loan move to a lower Premier League or Championship club might be exactly what the youngster needs to kick on and progress.
