Gareth Bale’s agent has claimed that the Welshman was never close to leaving Real Madrid this summer.
There were plenty of reports throughout the transfer window of a possible move to Manchester United, after Bale struggled during his second season in Spain.
With Madrid interested in signing David De Gea from Man United, it seemed Bale could have been the player to make the deal happen by moving to Old Trafford. However, his agent, Jonathan Barnett, has revealed that this was never the case.
“He has come nowhere near being transferred in the past few months,” Barnett said.
There have been rumours suggesting that United are still interested in bringing the former Tottenham Hotspur man back to the Premier League, despite the debacle of the failed De Gea transfer.
Barnett quashed those claims, stating: “He [Bale] is very happy at Real Madrid and hopefully he will stay there for the rest of his career. He is loving it there.”
Bale has become an integral part of Madrid’s team under new manager Rafael Benitez and has started the season well with two goals in Los Blancos’ win over Sporting Gijon.
With Cristiano Ronaldo struggling thus far this campaign, Bale’s value to Madrid increases even more. Benitez is expected to give the winger a more central role this year, in an attempt to revive his career at the Santiago Bernabeu. No matter what anyone says, Bale to United is one of those stories that refuses to go away. Louis van Gaal, it seems, is intent on bringing the former Southampton man to Manchester but he may have to come to terms with the fact that the move will never happen.
