Ander Herrera on his way back to Manchester for Liverpool game

by Sam Peoples

Ander Herrera is on his way back to Manchester after enjoying some down time with family in Spain.

The midfielder is yet to receive a senior call-up by Vicente del Bosque, so understandably took the chance during this international break to spend some time away from Manchester.

It’s sad that Herrera still hasn’t made an appearance for Spain under Del Bosque having improved so much since playing for the U21s but that’s indicative of how much quality Spain have in the central roles.

Back at Manchester United, Herrera faces an equally tough situation when it comes to playing time. Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Michael Carrick have all been put ahead of Herrera by Louis van Gaal in the pecking order, so he hasn’t had many minutes this season.

With Carrick potentially out injured for the Liverpool game, that is a chance for Herrera to come back into the starting XI and he’ll be desperate to get that opportunity.

If you told United fans that only six months after forcing his way back into the team that Herrera would be facing a similar situation on the sidelines, they’d have been furious. Given, the arrival of Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger changed the landscape dramatically but Herrera could very much help United’s issues with a cumbersome attack.
