Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has already had his say about Manchester United’s deadline day signing Anthony Martial.
The 19-year-old is yet to join up with his new club following the international break but Parlour has already claimed he will be a ‘miss’ over the course of the season.
GHaving had his say on six transfers that occurred this summer, the former midfielder feels that only Martial will prove to be unsuccessful.
Parlour wrote: “I look forward to seeing him play but I think it’s going to be a miss, because the money they’ve spent is an unbelievable amount.
“For a 19-year-old kid, he’s not proven. If he proves to be like a Thierry Henry, which is what a lot of people are saying, then he could obviously be a great signing but I think it is a massive gamble to take on a 19-year-old kid.
“With the money they’ve put out, I could be totally wrong but I’m going to say miss on that one.”
Martial is yet to kick a ball for United but it is interesting to see how many in the media have already written off the youngster, focusing purely on the fact United paid so much for him.
Parlour’s comments are particularly confusing, given he has not attested to the ex-Monaco man’s ability even once. Instead, like many other media outlets, he is choosing to judge an unproven player solely on his transfer fee.
The 42-year-old evidently has a short memory as he has chosen to completely ignore the fact that Martial was outstanding when Monaco dumped Arsenal out of the Champions League last season.
