Steve Round: David de Gea will be welcomed back for Manchester United

by Ben Topliss

Former Manchester United assistant manager Steve Round has insisted David de Gea will have no problems returning to the starting XI against Liverpool this weekend.

De Gea has not been included in any of Man United’s matchday squads so far this season but he is in line for a recall on Saturday following his failed transfer to Real Madrid.

There are question marks over whether or not De Gea would be mentally prepared to feature for United but Round insisted he will be welcomed back into the team.

“He’s an integral part of the United team and so influential. The players have no problem with David,” Round said.

“He’s such a good professional and a good guy around the place and very popular. I think they’ll welcome him back without a doubt. There won’t be any issues within the dressing room whatsoever.

“The boys will be glad to see him play, he is such a good goalkeeper and if I was a defender, I would want De Gea behind me.

“And there are no bigger games. This is massive and he’ll want to play in this game. Go out there and prove your worth, show what you’re about. And it would be a great game for him to re-establish himself, not only with the manager, the team, the fans but also himself.”

Sergio Romero has looked less than convincing in De Gea’s absence despite United’s impressive defensive record this term. United’s chances of securing a positive result will be significantly improved if De Gea plays as he is without a doubt one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
