David de Gea has always had a close relationship with Manchester United fans and he certainly felt the warmth of that at Old Trafford on Saturday.
After the summer long saga came to an end and he signed a new long-term contract with Man United, fans were simply delighted to see him back in a Man United shirt.
Not many felt that was a possibility at the start of the summer but that’s now all in the past – De Gea is a red.
Old Trafford stadium announcer Alan Keegan left De Gea’s name until last when reading out the squads ahead of kick-off and there was a huge cheer when it was finally called out:
De Gea only ever wanted to leave United for personal reasons, it had nothing to do with the fans or the club itself. He’s always shared a close bond with both and it’s fantastic to see that has immediately re-kindled itself now the summer debacle is behind us.
