Adnan Januzaj made his first start for Borussia Dortmund since his loan move from Manchester United on transfer deadline day.
The Belgian was making his full debut for Dortmund and thoroughly impressed, as his side beat FC Krasnodar 2-1 in the Europa League.
After started on the wing, Januzaj was unfortunate not to bag an assist for the first time in Dortmund’s famous yellow shirt. His set piece delivery was right on the mark, causing all sorts of problems for Krasnodar’s defence.
The 20-year-old forced a good save from Andriy Dykan, the Krasnodar ‘keeper, after a smart turn inside the box onto his right foot. His effort was at a good height for the stopper and was palmed away.
It is encouraging to see Januzaj have a good start to his loan spell. It was an interesting decision by Louis van Gaal to allow the midfielder to leave Man United for the season but the experience he gains could be vital.
Januzaj has found appearances few and far between since van Gaal’s arrival at United but many, including Belgium national team coach Marc Wilmots, feel that the loan move will benefit the youngster.
United fans will be hoping that their winger continues to impress and can come back to Old Trafford better than ever.
