Morgan Schneiderlin expects warm welcome from Southampton fans

Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is not worried about the reception he will get when the Reds visit his old club Southampton.

Schneiderlin spent seven years at St.Mary’s and was a crucial player for the club during their rise to the Premier League.

Man United’s other ex-Saint, Luke Shaw, will be unavailable following his double broken leg against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

However, Schneiderlin is looking forward to going back to Southampton for the first time since his move to Old Trafford this summer and is set to be re-called to the starting line-up, something that won’t phase him at all.

When asked about the reception he expects to receive, Schneiderlin told Manutd.com: “We will see but I know, and I think also the fans know, that I gave my best to Southampton. I know there have been some up and downs at the club. In the first two years after I came we went down to League One, but I left the club in the Premier League with their best [points] record in the league ever.

“I fought for this team with my team-mates. So we’ll see what the reception is but we parted on good terms.”

The Frenchman formed a formidable midfield partnership with Victor Wanyama last season and the pair were hugely influential as the Saints finished as high as seventh.

Schneiderlin will be keen to impress as much for United, having failed to win a start yet this month. The 25-year-old could be key to the Reds winning the battle in the midfield and going on to get all three points on Sunday.
