Juan Mata put in one of his best performances of the season in Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Southampton.
At St. Mary’s, Mata was a constant thorn in Southampton’s side after what was a shaky opening 30 minutes from every Man United player.
Memphis Depay could have had his first United goal after Mata floated in a perfect cross but he was unable to convert with the header.
As the game progressed, Mata’s influence grew and that was rewarded when the Spaniard was in the right place at the right time to fire home United’s third goal when Memphis’ shot came crashing back off the post.

You could see how happy Mata was in his post-match interview when asked about United’s third goal which came off the back of 44 consecutive passes and his 96% pass accuracy on the day shows how well he played when United were in full flow.
Mata on the right-wing has always raised question marks this year but with that sort of performance, there is plenty of evidence to suggest he can flourish on the right flank.
