Louis van Gaal confirms James Wilson will not be sold

Louis van Gaal has admitted James Wilson may now stay at Manchester United this season because of concerns over injuries and also quashed the idea of him being sold.

Wilson was set to join a Championship side on loan in order to gain regular first-team minutes but Wayne Rooney‘s injury has forced van Gaal to reconsider his options.

The 19-year-old is now likely to remain at Man United this season because it gives van Gaal more options and choices in attack which is something he needs, especially with so many games coming up.

“We have to consider that [keeping him here],” van Gaal told MUTV.

“Can he play like last season without [getting] many playing minutes? That is not good for him. But, of course, the injuries for Manchester United are above all other interests so we have to consider that again.”

Van Gaal also confirmed there was no possibility Wilson would be sold which is great news to hear.

Speaking to the Sunday papers, van Gaal added: “I can say James Wilson will not be sold because he is another young player that I like.”

Wilson’s got fantastic potential but we’re set to see him flourish because he simply doesn’t get enough game time.

Nobody expected Harry Kane to have the sort of season he did last year and that only happened as he was given the opportunity which he duly took advantage of.

That’s not to say Wilson will follow that growth path if given the same chances but it goes to show that promising talent needs game time to grow.

It’s going to be a tough season for Wilson to force his way into United’s team but with so many games coming up with the cup competitions, the 19-year-old old will surely be given chances by van Gaal if he stays at United.
