The victory takes Louis van Gaal‘s side into second place in the table, two points behind leaders Manchester City.
Southampton made a rip-roaring start, deservedly going ahead against an idle Man United side in the first 15 minutes, before new signing Anthony Martial scored either side of half time to give the visitors a narrow advantage.
Juan Mata‘s goal, which was preceded by an incredible passing move, then put van Gaal’s side into total control with 20 minutes to go. Despite a late strike from Graziano Pelle, United were able to see the game out. Here are some photos from the contest:
Following a shaky start, United showed real signs of menace against Ronald Koeman’s side. And, with David De Gea once again performing heroics and Martial, who was largely unheard of a few weeks ago, looking like one of the most potent forwards in the league after just two games, fans can be hopeful of their side mounting more pressure on Man City in the coming weeks.
