Anthony Martial‘s agent Philippe Lamboley has criticised Arsene Wenger for labelling him as a winger and poked fun at Arsenal’s transfer policy.
After Martial completed his move to Manchester United, Wenger commented to say he had been tracking the 19-year-old for some time but decided against a move because he already had enough wingers at Arsenal.
“Anthony is a true modern centre forward who can play a part,” he told RMC Sport.
“I am surprised by the analysis of Arsene Wenger who was apparently following him since he was a teenager.
“I do not agree with him because Anthony was scoring between 25 and 30 goals per season during his training at Olympique Lyonnais being centre forward and never played as a winger. When he is on the wing, it is to gain speed to stand up against central defenders.
“If the analysis Arsene Wenger made in order to justify not having signed Anthony, I accepts his words and so he is a winger.
“But in football, there are those who follow the players and those who buy them.”
Unlucky Arsene, looks like Philippe has taken apart your reasons for not signing Martial but at least Arsenal have got plenty of money left in the bank, right?
When Martial was signed, the press and fans from other clubs laughed at United for panic buying on an unknown teenager with such a high price tag. A few weeks into his United career and four goals later, everyone can see just how great a talent Martial is and United look to have signed a star of the future.
We’re looking forward to hearing Wenger’s rebuttal from this.
