Herrera made his move to Man United in 2014 and has been at close quarters with a number of youngsters who have been touted to have great futures with the club.
On Wednesday, Pereira added his name to a long list of players to come through the United youth system and eventually make their first-team debut, when he scored and helped his team to a 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town.
Herrera paid tribute to both Pereira and midfielder Adnan Januzaj, who is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund.
The 26-year-old said: “I didn’t know how good the academy is here.
United’s youth system has developed some of the best players the Premier League has seen. The likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and David Beckham all came through the academy at the club and went on to become legends.
It is clear Herrera has high hopes for the new crop of youngsters, of which Pereira and Januzaj are two of the most impressive. With players such as James Wilson and Jesse Lingard still waiting for the chance to make a real impact since coming through the youth system, United’s future looks bright and the academy’s reputation is as strong as ever.
