Jack Cork backs Manchester United’s Luke Shaw to return from injury

Swansea City’s Jack Cork has wished Luke Shaw a speedy recovery after the Manchester United defender suffered a double leg break earlier this month.

Cork and Shaw were teammates at Southampton and they have remained friends since leaving the club.

Shaw is currently beginning his rehabilitation in Manchester having suffered a double fracture of his right leg in the Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven.

Cork backed the 20-year-old to “come back stronger” following the injury.

“I’ve been in touch with him, I sent him a message which he replied to, to say thanks,” Cork said.

“It is fair to say he has not been short of messages of support which I am sure has lifted his spirits. I am sure he will come back stronger than ever.

“He is one of the hardest workers I have ever come across in football so there is no doubt he is going to come back and have a great career. He has the right mentality. The timing of it is a shame for him because he had started the season really well and he was looking like the guy they paid so much money to sign from Southampton.

“He looked strong and fast and he played really well in the game against us. He was also looking so strong for England with the Euros coming up but he has good people around him and he will be back for sure. I wish him the best.”

Shaw has received countless messages of support since his injury but the furore will soon die down and he will face the harsh reality of getting back to full fitness. It is a daunting prospect, but, as Cork says, he will have world-class medical support at Old Trafford. It’s safe to say that United supporters will be buzzing when Shaw ends up making his return.
