Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal provides injury update ahead of Sunderland clash

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Paddy McNair will all miss the clash against Sunderland this weekend.

Meanwhile, the experienced Dutchman will wait to see how his other players have recovered from the victory over Ipswich Town in midweek.

The injuries at the back means van Gaal has a headache when it comes to his defensive selection ahead of the game at Old Trafford.

Shaw and Rojo’s absence leaves Ashley Young as the only viable option to play at left-back as van Gaal will want Daley Blind to continue at the centre of defence.

Young played there against Ipswich and he may be forced to continue in the role against Ipswich.

Regardless, United should have enough to see off the threat of Sunderland. Dick Advocaat’s side are without a win in their opening six Premier League games and were dumped out of the Capital One Cup by Manchester City during the week. Van Gaal will warn against complacency but United will be confident heading into the match.
