There is a long way to go and United will hope they can be there come May when the season finishes.

However, fans of the club are delighted to overtake City, meaning United are top of the league for the first time since David Moyes’ first game in charge over two years ago. Rooney has been involved in many a title race since joining United and his experience will be key if United are to be involved near the top at the end of the campaign.

Having finished fourth last year, it was crucial United found themselves in with a chance of winning the league this time around. The start that they have made means expectations are high and a long title race could ensue.
