Anthony Martial wants to make Manchester United fans proud of him

Anthony Martial is well aware of the expectations which lay on his shoulders but says he is ready to do everything to show fans they can be proud of him.

Everything Martial has touched so far has turned to gold and with four goals in his first five appearances, his contributions have been instrumental in Manchester United’s rise to the top of the Premier League.

It was a better start than any Man United fan and Martial could have dreamed of but instead of getting carried away with the excitement, the French youngster is staying focused on making sure he kicks on from his great start at the club.

“I know the fans expect a lot from me because of my price tag,” he said.

“But I’ll do everything so they can be proud of me.”

Don’t worry Martial, we’re already proud of what you’ve done. To have put in such strong performances after so much criticism was aimed towards his move to Old Trafford was the perfect way to silence the critics and he’s used that as a springboard for his early success.

It feels like such a long time since United have had a striker up front who you can look at with confidence and say he is going to be a danger to the opposition’s defence week-in-week-out. Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck all had hot streaks but they were sandwiched between barren spells – so far, Martial has kept his form constant.

Nobody expects Martial to play as well as he currently is in every game this season but from what he has shown so far, you get the feeling that he’ll be a Denis Irwin type player in that even when he is poor, he puts in a decent performance.
