Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata was delighted to help his side to a 2-1 win over Wolfsburg in the Champions League.
The Spaniard was Man United’s star man, scoring the equaliser before recording an audacious assist for Chris Smalling‘s winner in the second half.
Mata has been in good form recently and it was a huge boost for United that he continued to perform well against the German side. The 27-year-old was playing his first Champions League game at Old Trafford for the Reds and he didn’t disappoint one bit, casually slotting him the penalty he won.
His assist for Smalling’s goal was astonishing, as he back-heeled the ball over the top of the Wolfsburg back four to play in the centre-back. It was a moment of magic that United desperately needed after clawing their way back into the game, having fallen behind early on.

Mata seems to have secured his place in the starting lineup under Louis van Gaal and is beginning to look undroppable with his performances. The ex-Chelsea man has improved with every game this season and has made the right wing berth his own.
United fans were delighted to see Mata at his best under the lights at Old Trafford and they will be hoping he can put on a similar display when their side visits Arsenal on Sunday. Currently top of the Premier League, it is a huge opportunity for United to put some daylight between themselves and their rivals and Mata could be key to unlocking a shaky Gunners defence at the Emirates Stadium.
