Manchester United’s James Wilson called up to England U21 squad to face Kazakhstan

Manchester United striker James Wilson has been named in the England U21 squad for the Euro Qualifier against Kazakhstan later this month.

Wilson is yet to make a first-team appearance for Man United this term but he scored the only goal of the game in England U21’s 1-0 win against USA’s U23 side earlier this season.

The Young Lions will play against Kazakhstan at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena in what will be their first home qualifier of the new campaign.

It will be another opportunity for Wilson to show exactly what he can do.

The youngster was handed a new contract at United last month and it is clear that the coaching staff rate him but evidently not enough to include him in any of the team’s lineups this season.

There was talk of Wilson going out on loan, possibly to Derby County, but van Gaal has indicated he will wait until December to make a decision on the player’s short-term future. Perhaps a good performance for England U21s will thrust Wilson into the manager’s plans.
