Wayne Rooney misses England training with knock sustained against Arsenal

The FA have confirmed Wayne Rooney missed England’s training session today with a ‘knock’ he sustained in Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Rooney is now a doubt for England’s game on Friday night against Estonia.

There was no sign of an injury to Rooney at the weekend as he played the full 90 minutes but maybe that was a contributing factor towards what was a poor performance from Man United’s captain.

Rooney will no doubt want to play having recently become England’s all-time top goalscorer but Roy Hodgson is unlikely to risk him if he isn’t fully fit.
As England have already qualified for Euro 2016, these international breaks are a dead rubber for United’s contingency in that they are meaningless, so as always the main concern for fans is that they come back to Carrington without any injuries.

United have got a very tough October ahead with games against Everton (A), CSKA Moscow (A) and Manchester City (H) coming up, sos Louis van Gaal will want his squad in the strongest possible condition.

On the flip side, maybe the only way van Gaal will drop Rooney is if he isn’t fit to play as, up until this point, his poor form hasn’t seen him benched.
