Former Manchester United keeper Tim Howard: Roy Keane was the best I played with

by Ben Topliss

Former Manchester United keeper Tim Howard has named Roy Keane as the best player he has ever played with.

Howard, now at Everton, joined Man United in 2003 and played with Keane before the Irishman left Old Trafford in 2005.

Keane’s fiery displays in the centre of the park for United made him one of the most imposing midfielders of his generation.

Howard has enjoyed a good career at the highest level but he insisted that no-one he has played with compares to Keane.

“He was probably the greatest player I’ve played with; a brilliant captain, able to marshal a game with just his voice, and an intimidating figure – but I respected him because he played the right way,” Howard said.

Keane is still regarded as a legend at United despite the fact his relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson soured towards the end of his time at the club. United took their time in replacing Keane but now appear to have gotten somewhere with the acquisition of Bastian Schweinsteiger this summer.
