Timothy Fosu-Mensah was in action this afternoon with Netherlands U19s in their European Championships qualifier against Liechtenstein and helped them to a 2-0 victory.
The youngster, who turned 17 in January, played the full 90 minutes at centre-back and it puts Netherlands on two wins from two qualifiers this week, putting them in a strong position.
Having played in a defensive midfield this season with Manchester United’s U21s and U19s, Fosu-Mensah comfortably completing a full game in defence showcases his versatility as a player and it’s good to see him continuing to develop at a fast pace.
Fosu-Mensah is a player who has bundles of potential and promise. He made such an impression in his debut season last year after his move from Ajax that he has been fast-tracked into the U21s and even at that level he has regularly stood out above his peers.
The future looks bright for Fosu-Mensah with both United and Netherlands, so we’re hoping he can continue to develop his game and progressing through international football at all age levels is certainly one way for him to do that.
Next up for Netherlands U19s side is another European Championships qualifier against France in a couple of days, which is sure to be a more difficult game than recent opponents Liechtenstein and Gibraltar.
