International reds: David de Gea and Juan Mata qualify for Euro 2016 with Spain

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea and Juan Mata became the latest two Manchester United players to qualify for Euro 2016 after Spain beat Luxembourg in a comfortable 4-0 victory.

Although De Gea was once again overlooked for Iker Casillas, which we’ll discuss in a separate article on The Peoples Person, Mata came on in the 11th minute for an injured David Silva.

Now both players have their work cut out to try and earn a starting spot in Vicente del Bosque’s side for Euro 2016 in France.

Chris Smalling was once again in superb form for England at centre-back. He is quickly becoming England’s main defender, just like he is for Man United.

Phil Jones was an unused substitute while Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney were both left out of England’s squad with injuries.

That means McNair, De Gea and Mata have all qualified for Euro 2016 so far in this international break and there is going to be plenty of United representatives at the tournament next summer.
