Ander Herrera dreaming of Spain call-up for Euro 2016

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has his sights firmly set on a call-up for the Spanish national team.

Herrera joined Man United from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2014 and has been one of the Reds most impressive performers since his arrival. Towards the back end of last season, the Spaniards displays helped United to wins over the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City and saw him win over the supporters.

However, despite impressing for his club, Herrera has not been able to win over Spain manager Vicente Del Bosque just yet. The 26-year-old is yet to make his debut for his country but feels his time is coming.

Herrera was asked how much a call-up would mean to him and he told MUTV: “Of course, I wish for it. It’s the next step for me. When you arrive at Manchester United, you are now in the biggest club with the best supporters and maybe the most followed club in the world.

“Last season, I think I had a good season. The fans were happy with me and the manager as well. Of course, I can play well or I can play badly, but I always give my best and I think I am doing well enough to get into the national squad. It’s my next step.”

Herrera is, perhaps, unlucky that he is Spanish, meaning he has huge competition for a space in the national squad. The ex-Bilbao man is still confident he deserves a spot.

He added: “I know we have, in Spain, maybe the best midfielders in the world right now but I think I have the quality to be in the national team. I will fight for it. I fought last season for that and I am trying to do it again. I think I have the quality to be in it and I am showing that.

“Of course, it’s the next dream, the next step for me. I know it’s difficult but I will try to do my best to be involved in the European Championship.”

It would be brilliant for United fans to see another one of their players represent Spain. With David De Gea and Juan Mata continuously receiving call-ups, many supporters of the club feel it is time Herrera joins his colleagues.

United fans definitely feel that their midfielder deserves his chance on the international stage. Herrera has been a consistently stellar player for the Reds since his arrival and as long as he keeps up those performances, it will only be a matter of time before he represents his country.
