Bruno Martins Indi continues to be linked as Marcos Rojo replacement – report

Manchester United are prepared to sell Marcos Rojo and bring in Bruno Martins Indi from Porto in January, say the Manchester Evening News.

Rojo has made just two appearances for Man United this season and was unable to join up with the rest of the squad on their pre-season tour of America due to passport issues. There have been plenty of rumours suggesting that Louis van Gaal is losing patience with the Argentine defender.

The 25-year-old has struggled with countless injuries this campaign as well and has been unavailable to van Gaal for the majority of the current season. Rojo signed for United last summer from Sporting Lisbon and reports suggest another defender plying his trade in Portugal could be on van Gaal’s radar.

These rumours all stem back to reports from Portugal and as United fans will be consciously aware, this is far from the first time we’ve been linked with Martins Indi as they originally began back in 2014 when he was part of the Netherlands squad at the World Cup under van Gaal.

What do we make of them? If van Gaal wanted to sign Martins Indi, he would have done so after the World Cup but he didn’t. Unless that opinion has changed, we can’t see him joining United any time soon.

However, there are question marks over Rojo’s long-term future. He has denied having a poor relationship with van Gaal but injuries and fitness have made it very difficult for him this season to get any game time.

At this moment, Rojo is replaceable at United and his job between now and the end of the season is to prove to van Gaal that he’s a valuable member of his squad.
