Wayne Rooney set to return from injury for Everton game – report

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is set to return from injury to face Everton in the Premier League on Saturday, according to Sky Sports.

Rooney missed England’s 2-0 victory over Estonia last week after picking up an ankle injury in training.

The 29-year-old did not travel to Vilnius ahead of England’s final qualifying game against Lithuania on Monday but he will likely be fit to face former club Everton this weekend.

Rooney has made an indifferent start to the campaign but the news that he will be fit will be a boost for Louis van Gaal.

Perhaps the rest will do the forward good. Rooney’s performances have been under the microscope this term and a period out of the limelight might have allowed him to recover mentally and physically.

He will be hopeful of getting one over on Everton, as will United supporters following the 3-0 defeat against Arsenal last time out. United had looked promising prior to the game at the Emirates and van Gaal will want his side to get back on track.
