Manchester United’s Bastian Schweinsteiger happy as Germany qualify for Euro 2016

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is happy to see the German national team recover from a few setbacks to qualify for the 2016 European Championships.

The World Champions lost to the Republic of Ireland last week before only just beating Georgia 2-1 on Sunday evening where Schweinsteiger was forced to sit on the bench with injury, having picked it up in the warm-up before the Ireland defeat.

Despite surprise setbacks, like the one against Ireland, Germany have secured qualification for the tournament in France next year, a tournament in which they will be one of the favourites having won the World Cup last year in Brazil.

Schweinsteiger played a vital part in the World Cup final last year where Germany beat Argentina 1-0 thanks to an extra-time Mario Gotze goal. Ploughing on despite injuries to his head, Schweinsteiger conducted a midfield mastermind as two superb teams cancelled each other’s quality out.

Having been rested as a precaution in Germany’s 2-1 win against Georgia, United fans will be hoping that Schweinsteiger’s adductor muscle injury will cause no issues for club, with two tricky tests coming up.

The Red Devils travel to Goodison Park to face bogey team Everton, having lost 3-0 on their last trip to the ground, before hosting Manchester City in what will be Schweinsteiger’s first Manchester derby if he can recover in time, which Germany manager Joachim Low expects he will. Between the Everton and City games is an away trip to Moscow to play CSKA, a fixture that tripped up rivals City last season.

An even bigger issue, though, could be if Schweinsteiger gets another injury after this. So far, the German has not suffered repetitive injuries as a United player but in his last few years at Bayern Munich, particularly his last season, he consistently picked up injuries. The signs have looked good in that sense so far, as with performances, having played a part in all eight of United’s league games this season.
