Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has warned his side that their performance against Arsenal last time out “cannot happen again”.
Man United were abysmal against Arsenal at the start of October and were deservedly beaten 3-0.
Van Gaal has had a lot of time to dwell on the result during the international break and he made it clear to his players that a repeat is unacceptable.
“Arsenal had 96 per cent passing accuracy but we had 68 per cent, normally we have 85 per cent or something like that, so it is a big difference,” van Gaal said.
“We have spoken about how that cannot happen again. We started so badly and Arsenal was so good. Maybe that was a coincidence but I don’t believe in that, I believe in preparation, focus and concentration.”
United’s performance against Arsenal was easily the worst of van Gaal’s reign and the Dutchman is right in saying that it cannot happen again.
Supporters will be expecting a response against Everton this weekend, although Roberto Martinez’s side are no pushovers and they will be raring to go at Goodison Park. Lose, and suddenly United and van Gaal may well come under pressure.
