Youri Tielemans urged to stay at Anderlecht despite Manchester United interest

Anderlecht midfielder and reported Manchester United target Youri Tielemans has been advised to stay at his current club by Belgian legend Paul van Himst.

The 18-year-old has recently been linked with a move to Man United but van Himst feels he still needs to prove himself in the Belgian Pro League before making the switch to a bigger club.

Tielemans is a central midfielder who shows a lot of promise. At just 18, he is already a regular figure in Anderlecht’s first team and is attracting interest from a whole host of Europe’s top clubs.

“Tielemans first has to become Anderlecht’s star performer and win the Golden Shoe [awarded to the Pro League’s best player] to be ready for [a transfer] abroad,” van Himst said.

“It would prove that he has played a full year at a high level. And that’s what I’m waiting for from Tielemans.”

The midfielder deciding to wait before he moves to a bigger club could benefit United if they are, in fact, interested in signing the Belgian. The Reds already have four top class central midfielders amongst their ranks and Tielemans coming to Old Trafford probably wouldn’t suit either party.

However, if the club were to wait at least one year it could be a better time to bring in a new, young midfielder. With Michael Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger both in their 30’s, there could be a need for new blood in midfield and Tielemans would be the perfect candidate.
