Juan Mata has thanked Manchester United’s fans for nominating him as Man United Player of the Month for September.
Mata scored three times and assisted a further three for United during September as the Reds won four out of their five games.
The Spaniard has been in scintillating form this season, combining with a mixture of players up front and on the wings to feature in every game under Louis van Gaal, who at one stage seemed to be struggling to find a way to fit him into the side.
Mata has now consistently taken up the inside forward role on the right flank, cutting inside frequently and effectively playing as a No.10 a lot of the time.
The change to the flank for Mata has been extremely rewarding, having played a part in eight goals already this season. He has thanked United’s fans for voting for him in the Player of the Month competition on ManUtd.com.
On his weekly blog for Kicca, the 27-year-old wrote: “Thank you so much for choosing me as the Player of the Month for September! I will keep working hard to get more! Have a nice week.”
Despite a rocky start at United, having joined for a club record fee under David Moyes in January 2014, he is now a fans’ favourite and one of the most important players in the side. He has already scored as many goals for United as he did for Chelsea, in 30 fewer appearances, which he is happy to have done.
