Player Ratings: CSKA Moscow 1-1 Manchester United – Anthony Martial makes the difference

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea 7 – Was angry with Phil Jones after saving his penalty and had every right to be. Made a few very good saves.

Antonio Valencia 6 – Did well after Anthony Martial‘s goal (which he put the cross in for) but was cumbersome like everyone else before that.

Phil Jones 5 – Terrible mistake to let Doumbia be first to the penalty rebound. Wasn’t good enough.

Chris Smalling 7 – Much stronger than Jones. Authoritative in the air.

Marcos Rojo 4 – Was isolated by CSKA Moscow and never overlapped Martial because he was scared.

Morgan Schneiderlin 7 – Commanding in midfield. Simply has to start against Manchester City.

Bastian Schweinsteiger 6 – Not his usual performance but to be fair every player was poor up until the last half.

Ander Herrera 6 – Sloppy at the start but grew into it.

Anthony Martial 8 – He’s the man to make it happen for United isn’t he? Magical goal.

Jesse Lingard 7 – Deserves the applause for a strong UEFA Champions League debut.

Wayne Rooney 5 – Dreadful. Even a 5 is generous.

Substitutions

Marouane Fellaini 6 – Not bad from the big man.

Daley Blind 6 – Really needed to bring him on for Rojo who was poor.

Memphis Depay N/A – Put in some dangerous crosses in his short cameo.
