The Spaniard registered a goal and an assist at Goodison Park as he helped Man United to their first win at the ground in four years.
Herrera was making his return to the side after missing the game against Arsenal before the international break through injury and he justified Louis van Gaal‘s decision to throw him straight into the starting lineup.
United dominated from start to finish against Everton and Herrera was crucial to United’s chances. The 26-year-old constantly pressed the Toffees defence high up the pitch and his neat interplay caused all sorts of problems for the hosts.
It was a top drawer performance from Herrera at a time when United are still looking to finalise their ideal starting 11. His display at Goodison Park saw him keep his place for the 1-1 draw against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday. The midfielder put in a fine display and he will hope that he has done enough to convince van Gaal that he should start every game at No.10 for United.
With the Manchester derby coming up next, supporters everywhere will be hoping Herrera is once again given the opportunity to thrive in his ideal position. The former Athletic Bilbao man seems to bring the best out of his whole team when he is on song and he will certainly need to be when City come to Old Trafford on Sunday.
